The trail starts at the locality of Forte di Oga at about 1727 m.a.s.l. A beautiful little road climbs up through fir and larch woods to the San Colombano alpine hut, passing the localities of Baite Streita, Sposina Bassa and Pozza.

The malga is located in a spectacular spot with a view of the Bormio basin, between the slopes of the Corno San Colombano, the Dosso le Pone behind (with the San Colombano pass and the little church of the same name) and to the south the slightly elevated Masucco.

2. VAL DI REZZALO

Technical information:
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 3 Km
Duration: 1 h 30 min
Height difference ascent: 375 m
Descent: 0 m
Departure: Fumero
Arrival: La baita refuge

The starting point is Sondalo in the hamlet of Fumero (1465m). The hike starts along a comfortable mule track uphill, often used in winter by many ski mountaineers who make their ascents in this valley.

From Fontanaccia, after one kilometre we enter the valley, meeting the Baite Pontella (1631m).

From here the slope becomes less tiring and as we leave the forest we begin to admire the peaks of the head of the Rezzalo Valley.

We now continue until we reach the small church of San Bernardo di Chiaravalle, and then take the fork in the road in the direction of the La Baita refuge, which we soon reach.

Arrival: Branca Refuge

In addition to the charm of a silent, wild valley dominated by the imposing north face of Monte Tresero, there are at least two added values for this valuable winter hike: the almost always beaten ground and the presence along the route of a warm and cosy refreshment point.

From the 'La Fonte' car park in Santa Caterina Valfurva, follow the flat road heading eastwards towards the Forni refuge.

The roadway proceeds flat for about a kilometre until, at the end of the 'Lusseda' meadows, the ascent begins.

You can stop at the first Dei Forni refuge, or for the more courageous you can reach the Branca refuge at 2493 metres.

Equipment needed

Before you dive into this adventure, make sure you are properly equipped. Wear a robust windbreaker, warm gloves, a cap to protect you from the cold, and sunglasses to shield you from the reflected light on the snow. Trekking shoes or hiking boots, along with a roomy backpack and gaiters, complete the outfit. Don't forget ski poles and snowshoes, easily rented from local sports shops, we suggest renting them from here: https://okgoskirent.com/
